Piroxicam (Feldene) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the oxicam class that inhibits cyclooxygenase enzymes to reduce prostaglandin-mediated pain and inflammation. Its long half-life allows for convenient once-daily dosing, making it useful for chronic conditions such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Like other NSAIDs, piroxicam carries boxed warnings for increased cardiovascular risk and serious gastrointestinal bleeding, and its longer half-life means side effects may take longer to resolve after discontinuation compared to shorter-acting NSAIDs.
