NP Thyroid is a natural desiccated thyroid extract derived from porcine thyroid glands, containing both levothyroxine (T4) and liothyronine (T3) in their naturally occurring ratio. It is used as replacement therapy for hypothyroidism in patients whose thyroid gland does not produce enough hormone. Some patients and prescribers prefer desiccated thyroid over synthetic levothyroxine alone because it provides both T3 and T4, though clinical evidence of superiority is limited. As with other thyroid replacement products, dosing is individualized and guided by TSH and clinical symptoms, with caution in elderly patients and those with cardiovascular disease.
