Toviaz (fesoterodine fumarate) blocks muscarinic receptors in the bladder, reducing involuntary bladder muscle contractions that cause urinary urgency, frequency, and urge incontinence. It is FDA-approved for the treatment of overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms in adults. Common side effects include dry mouth and constipation due to its anticholinergic activity, and it should be used cautiously in patients with urinary retention, gastric retention, or uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma, for whom antimuscarinic agents are contraindicated.
