Vardenafil (Levitra, Staxyn) is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. It works by relaxing blood vessels in the penis, increasing blood flow during sexual stimulation to help achieve and maintain an erection. Levitra tablets (5, 10, or 20 mg) are typically taken about 60 minutes before sexual activity, with or without food, and should not be used more than once per day. Staxyn is an orally disintegrating tablet that dissolves on the tongue without water. Vardenafil should not be combined with nitrate medications (often used for chest pain) or recreational drugs called 'poppers,' as this combination can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure. Men taking alpha-blockers for BPH or high blood pressure should use caution, as vardenafil can also lower blood pressure. Common side effects include headache, flushing, nasal congestion, and indigestion. Rare but serious effects include a sudden decrease or loss of vision or hearing, and priapism (an erection lasting more than 4 hours, which requires immediate medical attention). Grapefruit juice and certain medications (such as strong CYP3A4 inhibitors) can increase vardenafil levels and may require a lower dose.

Doxazosin is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It relaxes blood vessels to improve circulation and reduces muscle tension in the prostate and bladder neck to ease urination. Doxazosin lowers blood pressure, reducing the risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney problems, while improving urinary flow in men with BPH. It must be taken exactly as prescribed, with the first dose typically at bedtime to prevent dizziness or fainting from a sudden drop in blood pressure. Patients should stand up slowly to minimize lightheadedness.

Oral medication taken once daily to shrink an enlarged prostate and improve urinary symptoms of BPH.

Do not combine with nitrates or recreational "poppers": Vardenafil should never be taken with nitrate medications (commonly used for chest pain/angina) or recreational nitrite drugs, as the combination can cause a sudden, dangerous drop in blood pressure.
Blood pressure caution: Men taking alpha-blockers for high blood pressure or an enlarged prostate should use vardenafil cautiously, as it can further lower blood pressure.
Seek immediate medical attention for: a sudden decrease or loss of vision or hearing, or an erection lasting longer than 4 hours (priapism).
Grapefruit juice and certain medications (strong CYP3A4 inhibitors) can raise vardenafil levels in the blood and may require a dose adjustment. Vardenafil does not protect against sexually transmitted infections.
