The Dexcom G7 is a continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system used by people with diabetes to track glucose levels throughout the day and night. A small sensor is worn on the body (typically the back of the upper arm or, depending on age, the abdomen or upper buttocks) and automatically sends real-time glucose readings to a compatible smartphone, smart device, or receiver every 5 minutes. Each sensor lasts up to 10 days and has a short warm-up period of about 30 minutes; no fingerstick calibration is required. Users can set customizable high and low glucose alerts, including an Urgent Low Soon alert, to help prevent dangerous blood sugar excursions. The Dexcom G7 is indicated for people age 2 and older with diabetes and can be used to help guide treatment decisions in place of routine fingerstick testing, though a fingerstick meter may still be needed if symptoms don't match sensor readings or during rapid glucose changes. It is not intended for people who are not on insulin and considering therapy adjustments without consulting a healthcare provider.

The Dexcom G7 sensor is applied to the back of the upper arm (or, for younger users, the abdomen or upper buttocks) using a simple one-piece applicator. After a roughly 30-minute warm-up period, the sensor begins sending real-time glucose readings to a compatible smartphone or receiver every 5 minutes, with no fingerstick calibration required.
Each sensor lasts up to 10 days before it needs to be replaced. Users can set personalized high and low glucose alerts, including an Urgent Low Soon alert, to help catch dangerous highs and lows before they happen.
When a fingerstick may still be needed: if symptoms don't match the sensor reading, during periods of rapid glucose change, or if the sensor displays a check blood glucose symbol.
The Dexcom G7 is water-resistant and can be worn while showering, exercising, or swimming, but should not be submerged more than 8 feet or for longer than 24 hours.
