Ozempic Tablet is an FDA-approved oral formulation of semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist manufactured by Novo Nordisk. It is available in 4 mg and 9 mg strengths. Along with diet and exercise, Ozempic Tablet is approved to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in adults with type 2 diabetes. The 9 mg dose is also approved to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events (heart attack, stroke, or death) in adults with type 2 diabetes who have known heart disease or are at high cardiovascular risk. Ozempic Tablet is not approved for weight management; the FDA-approved oral semaglutide tablet for weight management is a separate product, Wegovy Tablet. Semaglutide works by mimicking the GLP-1 hormone, which slows gastric emptying, increases feelings of fullness, and helps regulate blood sugar. Ozempic Tablet should be taken once daily on an empty stomach with no more than 4 oz of plain water, swallowed whole (not split, crushed, or chewed), followed by waiting at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking, or taking other oral medications. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal pain. Ozempic carries a boxed warning against use in patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2, based on thyroid C-cell tumors observed in animal studies. Rare but serious risks include pancreatitis and gallbladder problems. Patients should discuss the risks and benefits with their healthcare provider.

This is not the FDA-approved Ozempic: Ozempic (semaglutide) is only FDA-approved as a once-weekly injection for type 2 diabetes. There is no FDA-approved oral Ozempic tablet. This product is a compounded oral semaglutide tablet prepared by a licensed compounding pharmacy, which means the FDA has not reviewed it for safety, effectiveness, or consistent manufacturing quality.
How to take it: For best absorption, take on an empty stomach with no more than 4 ounces of plain water, then wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything else, or taking other oral medications.
Boxed warning: Semaglutide should not be used by patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2, due to a risk of thyroid C-cell tumors seen in animal studies.
Talk to your prescriber about whether a compounded product or an FDA-approved alternative (such as Ozempic injection or Rybelsus tablets) is right for you.
