Wegovy Tablet is an FDA-approved oral formulation of semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist manufactured by Novo Nordisk, available in a 25 mg strength. Along with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, Wegovy Tablet is approved for chronic weight management in adults with obesity, or with overweight and at least one weight-related condition. It is also approved to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events (heart attack, stroke, or death) in adults with known heart disease who have obesity or overweight. Wegovy Tablet is not approved for blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes; the FDA-approved oral semaglutide tablet for that indication is a separate product, Rybelsus, and the FDA-approved oral tablet for diabetes and cardiovascular risk reduction is Ozempic Tablet. Semaglutide works by mimicking the GLP-1 hormone, which slows gastric emptying, reduces appetite, and increases feelings of fullness. Wegovy Tablet should be taken once daily on an empty stomach with no more than 4 oz of plain water, swallowed whole (not split, crushed, or chewed), followed by waiting at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking, or taking other oral medications. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal pain. Wegovy carries a boxed warning against use in patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2, based on thyroid C-cell tumors observed in animal studies. Rare but serious risks include pancreatitis and gallbladder problems. Patients should discuss the risks and benefits with their healthcare provider.

This is not an FDA-approved Wegovy product. Wegovy® (semaglutide) is FDA-approved only as a once-weekly injectable pen for chronic weight management and to reduce cardiovascular risk in adults with obesity or overweight. There is no FDA-approved Wegovy tablet. This oral tablet is a compounded formulation of semaglutide prepared by a licensed compounding pharmacy; it has not been reviewed by the FDA for safety, effectiveness, or manufacturing quality.
How to take it:
Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, and decreased appetite. Staying hydrated and eating smaller, lower-fat meals can help.
Boxed Warning: Semaglutide (the same class of medication as Wegovy and Ozempic) caused thyroid C-cell tumors in animal studies. It is contraindicated in patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). Tell your prescriber right away if you notice a neck lump, hoarseness, trouble swallowing, or shortness of breath.
Talk with your prescriber about the differences between this compounded product and FDA-approved options like Wegovy injection, and whether either is right for you.
