Pregnyl (chorionic gonadotropin, hCG) is a hormone medication given by injection, most commonly used in fertility treatment to trigger final egg maturation and ovulation after a course of fertility medications, timed one day after the last dose of gonadotropin therapy. It is also used to treat certain cases of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism in men and undescended testicles (cryptorchidism) in boys when not caused by a structural blockage. Dosing and timing vary by indication and are individualized by the prescribing provider. Common side effects include injection site pain, redness or swelling, headache, and irritability. Important warnings include the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) in women undergoing fertility treatment, an increased chance of multiple pregnancy, and rare but serious blood clots. Contact your provider promptly for symptoms such as severe abdominal pain, rapid weight gain, or difficulty breathing.

Clomiphene citrate is a powerful, nonsteroidal Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator (SERM) used as a first-line, orally administered therapy for treating ovulatory dysfunction in women desiring pregnancy. It works by selectively modulating estrogen receptors to stimulate the hypothalamic–pituitary–ovarian (HPO) axis, leading to follicular growth and subsequent ovulation. Since its FDA approval in 1967, it has been widely used and is also employed off-label in men with secondary hypogonadism.
